Insul-Quilt is a blanket of glass-wool, faced with white fiberglass cloth and backed with aluminum foil. It is two inches thick and four feet wide. It is manufactured at a standard length of 16 feet but can be customized to varying lengths. Insul-Quilts can be manufactured to each individual client’s needs and even though the standard color-schemes are black and white fiberglass cloths, at our client’s request this cloth can be provided in numerous colors.
Since 1963 Insul-Quilt has withstood the test of time and has emerged over and over again as the superior sound barrier when compared to even the newest state of the art sound absorbent materials. With a NRC of .95 and weighing only .4 lbs. per square foot it is significantly lighter than most other professional grade materials, yet it absorbs in many cases as much as twice the noise as other materials.
Insul-Quilt serves not only as an acoustical and/or plenum barrier, but it also serves as excellent insulation. It is extremely safe due to its outer flame proof foil and received a flame spread and smoke density test result of zero by the SGS U.S. Testing Company Inc. in 2003.
Insul-Quilt has also gained a reputation among builders and architects for providing maximum environmental noise reduction in structures at or near airports, freeways and other high environmental noise areas. This amazing material has proven highly effective in casinos, vacation resorts, mixed-use buildings, office buildings, and hospitals.
Insul-Quilt has been used for virtually 100% sound absorption in sound stages all over the world including the sound stages at Warner Brothers Studios, Universal Studios California and Florida, 20Th Fox Films Corporation in Beverly Hills, Aaron Spelling Studios California and many others.
Insul-Quilt is highly effective as a supplemental sound barrier in stopping the transfer of sound through ceilings and walls of adjacent rooms. It is also an excellent finish material for walls and ceilings while accomplishing maximum reduction in ambient noise. This state of the art material may not only be installed in plenums, but also can be installed directly on walls and ceilings.

Materials
Insul-Quilt uses include sound absorption blanket, noise reduction baffles and plenum barriers. Quilts are constructed of a layer of .00025” flame-proof foil on 100 lb Kraft paper encasing 2 layers of SR-25 fiberglass insulation with .0068” glass fiber plain weave fabric in white or black. Custom colors are available. The quilts are sewn with loop stitching 4” OC. The sides are encased and the ends are exposed. Ends may be encased during installation. The product can be completely encased for specific application.

- Installation of Insul Quilts
- The Insul-Quilts may be installed with either 1” roofing nails or with 2” staples at 16” OC along wood stripping. The fasteners must be long enough to penetrate the backing without compressing the Insul-Quilt to less than 1” in thickness at point of penetration.
- The raw edges of the Insul-Quilt must be concealed or cut back so the cloth can be tucked behind the back of the material to make a neat and finished product
- Backing Installation
- 2”x 3” wood stripping shall be installed either vertically or horizontally with mechanical fasteners or with powder activated pins (powder activated pins will be used with concrete substrate)
- The 2”x 3” wood stripping installed vertically will be set at 23” OC or 16” OC with the understanding that the width of the blanket will finish out, after a 1” lap at approximately 46”.
- The 2”x 3” wood stripping installed horizontally will be set at 24” OC and Insul-Quilt is hung vertically.
- Option to Install Insul-Quilts Over Metal Studs and Drywall Framing
- Install 1”x 3” strips through drywall substrate at 24” OC horizontally. Wood stripping must run horizontally. See drawings for details.
- Powder Activated Shots and Pins with Washers
- Attach Insul-Quilts to substrate using HILTI X-SW (Powder Actuated Fasteners). At the joint of the two blankets, overlap 1” and install fasteners at 16” intervals vertically. At the midpoint of the blanket, install shot pins at approximately 16” OC vertically. See Powder Activated detail for recommended locations.
- Stick Clips
- The Stick Clips will need to stay on the wall to dry for at least 24 hours prior to mounting Insul-Quilts. The fasteners must be long enough to penetrate the backing at least ½” without compressing the Insul-Quilt less than 1” at the point of penetration. The nominal thickness of Insul-Quilt is 2”. Stick clips @ 16” OC in both directions.
